1874 Bendigo City Hall - Bull Street
Description
A photo of Bendigo from 1874 looking south-east along Bull Street, with the original City Hall (designed in 1859 by George Avery Fletcher, who was then the town clerk of Bendigo) at the end of the street. That building was remodelled and enhanced to become the current Town Hall around 1878.
On the right of the photo we see the "Commercial Hotel" building, which still stands on the corner of Bull Street and the Midland Highway. On the far left of the photo we can see the "Metropolitan Hotel" building, which still stands and currently operates as "The "Metropolitan Cafe". To the right of City Hall, we see "The London" hotel building, which still stands, though now it operates as a cafe.

Our team of conservators have worked on a high resolution digital image in order to remove blemishes and artifacts such as stains, mould, scratches and damage caused by the handling and storage of the original. We strive to provide authentic representations of the original work that are suitable for enlargements that retain the tones and character of the original.
