A delightful photograph around 1915 of Swanston Street looking north from Flinders Street. The astonishing architecture in this part of Melbourne was not deemed worthy of retaining for later generations. Photograph attributed to Lyle Fowler.

Notes from the State Library tell us that this image is a "View of Swanston Street, looking north from eastern side outside the cathedral (St. Paul's Cathedral). Cars and trams in street, including Toorak tram. Pedestrians crossing street and standing on foot path. Businesses on street include Peppa's Fruit Market and Confectionery Palace, and the Queen's Arms on the left, Cathedral Hotel on the right."
