1875 Melbourne Looking South East from Scots' Church

MI_1120

A photograph from 1875 of Melbourne looking south east with Wellington Parade heading east towards Richmond. Flinders Street runs diagonally across the image and separates the city from the open spaces of Jolimont. Flinders Lane is also visible running parallel with Flinders Street.

The photograph was taken from the top of Scots' Church on the corner of Russell and Collins Streets. Scots' Church was completed in 1874 and was the highest building in Melbourne at that time and provided a wonderful platform for bird's-eye photographs of Melbourne.
