1920s Collins Street

MI_1053

A photograph of Collins Street looking east towards the Treasury Building around 1920.

We see a busy street, both on the footpaths and on the road. Cable trams, hansom cabs, horse drawn drays, automobiles and pedestrians are all moving in different directions without a single traffic light in sight. At this period, the spectacular architecture of Collins Street had probably reached its zenith. Unfortunately, a lot of the major buildings in Collins Street have since been demolished.
