A photo from 1872, taken from the steps of the Customs House (still standing, but now the Immigration Museum) in Flinders Street Melbourne.
The Queen's Wharf was the first wharf to be constructed on the northern bank of the Yarra, with the first wooden piles pounded into the mud in 1841. It occupied the prime land at the northern edge of the Turning Basin, just at the southern end of William Street. Other wharf operators set themselves up moving towards the west, namely Raleigh's Wharf, Cole's Wharf and Australia Wharf.
