The notes from the State Library tell us that this image is of "Australian troops making their way to the trenches, on October 28th 1917, along the wreckage strewn ridge of Westhoek, in the Ypres sector, in Belgium. Elevated view of a line of soldiers walking along a muddy duckboard and corduroy track, devastated landscape on both sides littered with overturned wagons, heavy artillerty, flooded shell holes."
