MI_1103

A beautiful drawing from 1880 of the Exhibition Building in Melbourne, drawn by the architect, Joseph Reed. The building was constructed for the Melbourne International Exhibition of 1880. Reed also designed or was involved in the design of many other Melbourne icons, such as the current Melbourne Town Hall, and the State Library building. The builder was David Mitchell, who also constructed Melbourne's Scots' Church and St Patrick's Cathedral. Mitchell was the father of the world famous opera singer Nellie Melba (born Helen Porter Mitchell).
